To keep Crafty Fox Markets unique and fresh, we work with guest curators to select traders for each market. For our Autumn markets, we are delighted to welcome as curators Michael and Raquel Wallace from The Lost Lanes and Leona Thrift-ola from Lucky Dip Club!

Raquel and Michael Wallace

Michael and Raquel are a husband and wife team who set up The Lost Lanes in April 2013, an online marketplace ‘where creative people sell creative things’. Inspired by markets and hidden away lanes where creative talent can be discovered, The Lost Lanes showcases a curated collection of products made by independent, UK-based designer/makers, where visitors can place orders directly with the makers. With products ranging from jewellery and clothing to coasters and umbrellas, Michael and Raquel aim to bring creativity and a sense of discovery to everyone.

What are you most looking forward to about curating a Crafty Fox Market?

We really love the fun, creativity and intimacy of the Crafty Fox markets so we are really excited to be part of it. The quality and talent of the designers that take part in the Crafty Fox markets is exceptional and the selectivity really shines through when compared to other markets. They have a great ethos, one that we share, so we hope that we can help them bring together another fantastic collection of designers. Being a part of that selection process is an honour so we’re really looking forward to being involved.

How do you find and select new designers to showcase on your website?

We’re always on the lookout. Often they come to us, but if we see someone we love in a market, a blog or social media we reach out and hope that they share the passion that we do. Just like Crafty Fox we’re working really hard to create an amazing collection of like minded creative individuals.

Lucky Dip Club is a themed subscription box full of handmade products delivered to the doors of subscribers once a month, featuring all new products designed by Leona (including one personalised item) plus one exclusive product from a collaborator. With a background in jewellery making and creative business, Leona released the first batch of 100 boxes in May 2014, which took just one day to sell out. Just over 1 year later, Lucky Dip Club produces around 1,100 boxes per month, which sell out in less than 1 hour!

What are you most looking forward to about curating a Crafty Fox Market?

London is such a hot bed of emerging crafters and artists and I love any opportunity to see what’s going on out there!

How do you choose and work with a collaborator to produce the exclusive items included in your boxes?

I’m a real fan girl of lots of different types of creative folk around the world and I spend a lot of time figuring out how I can collaborate with them! For example, my April box was always going to be ‘Raining Cats & Dogs’ themed and I’ve been a huge admirer of Gemma Correll for many years now so asking her to draw a pug and a persian in rain coats dancing in puddles for me to turn into a jewellery set and paper goods for this box made total sense.
