Crafty Fox Uncovered

Crafty Fox Uncovered is a scheme that supports makers who have been in business for less than 12 months. Applications are accepted three times a year, in line with the main market applications.  New makers can benefit from half price stalls and access to advice from established traders via our regular meetups.

The Uncovered area of the market can be found on the 2nd floor in the Dogstar, Brixton and in a separate area on the 2nd floor at the CLF Art Cafe, Peckham. We are not currently able to offer this scheme as part of our Oval Space event.

"I started Crafty Fox Uncovered as it seemed like a simple way to encourage new makers and help them get started with market trading. It's a very friendly community so I knew we would have no shortage of people happy to share their knowledge and advice.”

Case Study - Cecily Vessey & Georgia Bosson

London based illustrator Cecily Vessey had been taking part in markets for several years when she was paired up with textile designer Georgia Bosson as part of Crafty Fox Uncovered. Cecily says, “I remember doing my first market, I was so nervous and it was great to have the opportunity to help someone out at that stage and make it a little less stressful for them.”

In actual fact, the rewards run deeper than simply helping someone else,  “I realised a lot of the things I was telling Georgia I could definitely be doing a bit better myself! It also made me realise how much I have learnt along the way and how much info is swooshing around in my head!”

Since then, Cecily and Georgia have become good friends and have even collaborated on a joint piece of art. Georgia has now taken on the role of mentor herself, taking new traders under her wing and guiding them through their first market experiences.

Georgia reflects: “I wanted to help new traders so that I could pay back the favour that Cecily paid me, and hopefully help new people feel a little more relaxed. The thing I have found most interesting is that they are asking pretty much the same questions that I did when I first started so it really does feel like the whole thing has come full circle! When I first started out, I didn't know anyone else doing what I was attempting to do, so to now have a group of friends to call on for advice or a drink is great!”

Sam from Grey Letter Press shares their experiences with Crafty Fox Uncovered:

“Crafty Fox in Brixton was our first experience of selling our cards in public and naturally we were quite nervous about the whole experience… would our products be well received? Thankfully yes! The market was incredibly busy and we came away with a nice profit and a huge confidence boost. Enough so that we now felt comfortable in contacting retailers and I’m delighted to say we’ve now got our cards stocked in a couple of shops. "
